Crime Pays if You're an Arkansas State Trooper
"A former Arkansas state trooper drew a two-year prison sentence Tuesday for admitting to the theft of more than $90,000 from the Arkansas Special Olympics.
Howard Smith, 51, was ordered to repay $50,000 following his guilty plea to a reduced charge of theft of property.

Smith was charged in February 2003 with felony theft of property and six counts of felony forgery. Authorities say he stole $94,426 from a bank account set up for the Special Olympics.

Smith was with the Arkansas State Police for 25 years and was based in Forrest City. He quit in 2003 after the investigation was announced."

Soooo....he steals $94,426 from disabled kids, but he only has to repay $50,000. In other words, he'll in essence be payed $22,213 a year for the two years hs sits in prison. Sounds like he'll come out of there still ahead of the game. I guess in the American JustUs system, crime pays as long as you're a cop.
