Abused By Illusions

OATH OF OFFICE--MEMBERS, RESIDENT COMMISSIONER, AND DELEGATES

The oath of office required by the sixth article of the Constitution of the United States, and as provided by section 2 of the act of May 13, 1884 (23 Stat. 22), to be administered to Members, Resident Commissioner, and Delegates of the House of Representatives, the text of which is carried in 5 U.S.C. 3331:


I, Loyal Citizen of the Republic, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

All members of Congress are required to take the above oath. Notice the section that I have underlined concerning their duties relating to protection of the Constitution of the United States of America. Lawmakers voted to make 14 of the Patriot Acts 16 sections permanent that were scheduled to expire in December. Also as a reminder this misnamed Patriot Act legislation was passed originally without even being read.

The other two provisions -- Section 215, which gives the FBI secret access to people's business, medical, library, bookstore and other shopping records, and Section 206, which authorizes so-called roving wiretaps -- would be renewed for 10 years as part of the vote.

After a day-long debate, the House voted 257 to 171 last night to extend or make permanent the most controversial provisions of the law while adding a handful of new restrictions on the FBI. Forty-three Democrats joined 214 Republicans in approving the Patriot renewal bill. Other proposals for sharper limits were rejected.


Now can someone explain to me how voting legislation into law that cancels key parts of the Bill of Rights complies with the above underlined section of the oath of office all of these members took? Treason is defined as as a violation of allegiance toward one's own country, especially by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies. George W. Bush claims that the reasons that terrorist hate us is because of our freedom. If this is so are the actions of Congress and the President not clearly examples of treason as defined above? Has the act of making the Patriot Act permanent not given the terrorist the very thing that the Commander and Chief said that they were after to begin with? Below is a list of the house roll call vote. I don't hold much hope that these traitors will receive their just desserts for their treason via a vis their direct violation against their oath of office but I do plan on publishing their treason far and wide. It is my hope that come next election that we can have everyone on the Aye section of this list safely back home selling used cars or something instead of commiting treason against their fellow countymen! I personally cannot believe that there is not a huge uproar over this. As a veteran what really amazes me is that the U.S. government believes that they are going to be able to recruit young men and women into the armed forces. If the government itself is taking their freedoms away at home why in the heck would anyone be willing to risk their lives for a country that no longer even makes the pretenses of being free?
