This documentary aired in October by the BBC shows how the very same people that today are using fear to control the American public did this once before. They extended the Cold War threat by 20 years by selling a horror song and dance using their machines of propaganda and are doing it again. The sad part is most Americans will never see this documentary and will thus remain uninformed about how we were then manipulated and how today were are manipulated by a new CREATED fear called the war on terrorism.

Our own country spent millions in marketing the brand Al-Qaeda worldwide before it was co-opted by Bin Laden. The present administration's idea of fighting terror is nothing more than a clever mind game of fighting terror by instilling terror. Thus, they gain more and more political power and at the same time enrich themselves utilizing this same fear.

What if there really was no need for much - or even most - of the Cold War?

What if, in fact, the Cold War had been kept alive for two decades based on phony WMD threats?

What if, similarly, the War On Terror was largely a scam, and the administration was hyping it to seem larger-than-life?

What if our "enemy" represented a real but relatively small threat posed by rogue and criminal groups well outside the mainstream of Islam?

What if that hype was done largely to enhance the power, electability, and stature of George W. Bush and Tony Blair?

And what if the world was to discover the most shocking dimensions of these twin deceits - that the same men promulgated them in the 1970s and today?

It happened.

The myth-shattering event took place in England the first three weeks of October, when the BBC aired a three-hour documentary written and produced by Adam Curtis, titled "The Power of Nightmares http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/3755686.stm

If the emails and phone calls many of us in the US received from friends in the UK - and debate in the pages of publications like The Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/terrorism/story/0,12780,1327904,00.html are any indicator, this was a seismic event, one that may have even provoked a hasty meeting between Blair and Bush a few weeks later. According to this carefully researched and well-vetted BBC documentary, Richard Nixon, following in the steps of his mentor and former boss Dwight D. Eisenhower, believed it was possible to end the Cold War and eliminate fear from the national psyche. The nation need no longer be afraid of communism or the Soviet Union.

Nixon worked out a truce with the Soviets, meeting their demands for safety as well as the US needs for security, and then announced to Americans that they need no longer be afraid. In 1972, President Richard Nixon returned from the Soviet Union with a treaty worked out by Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, the beginning of a process Kissinger called "détente."

On June 1, 1972, Nixon gave a speech in which he said, "Last Friday, in Moscow, we witnessed the beginning of the end of that era which began in 1945. With this step, we have enhanced the security of both nations. We have begun to reduce the level of fear, by reducing the causes of fear-for our two peoples, and for all peoples in the world." But Nixon left amid scandal and Ford came in, and Ford's Secretary of Defense (Donald Rumsfeld) and Chief of Staff (Dick Cheney) believed it was intolerable that Americans might no longer be bound by fear.

Without fear, how could Americans be manipulated? Rumsfeld and Cheney began a concerted effort - first secretly and then openly - to undermine Nixon's treaty for peace and to rebuild the state of fear and, thus, reinstate the Cold War. And these two men - 1974 Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Ford Chief of Staff Dick Cheney - did this by claiming that the Soviets had secret weapons of mass destruction that the president didn't know about, that the CIA didn't know about, that nobody but them knew about. And, they said, because of those weapons, the US must redirect billions of dollars away from domestic programs and instead give the money to defense contractors for whom these two men would one day work.

"The Soviet Union has been busy," Defense Secretary Rumsfeld explained to America in 1976. "They've been busy in terms of their level of effort; they've been busy in terms of the actual weapons they 've been producing; they've been busy in terms of expanding production rates; they've been busy in terms of expanding their institutional capability to produce additional weapons at additional rates; they've been busy in terms of expanding their capability to increasingly improve the sophistication of those weapons. Year after year after year, they've been demonstrating that they have steadiness of purpose. They're purposeful about what they're doing."

The CIA strongly disagreed, calling Rumsfeld's position a "complete fiction" and pointing out that the Soviet Union was disintegrating from within, could barely afford to feed their own people, and would collapse within a decade or two if simply left alone. But Rumsfeld and Cheney wanted Americans to believe there was something nefarious going on, something we should be very afraid of. To this end, they convinced President Ford to appoint a commission including their old friend Paul Wolfowitz to prove that the Soviets were up to no good.

Well now if the following legal precedent stands it looks as though the courts themselves are moving to dismantle the carefully designed checks and blances of the founding fathers. Further, why should we pay the judicary if they can't get involved in such matters.

Since congress no longer reads nor debates significant legislation (i.e. Patriot I &II) why not have all cases tried before the legislative branch. They can't have much else to do and since the judiciary is now deferring to them anyway it is what we have by proxy anyway. Sorry folks but the illusions that the ruling elite of this country have fed us for so long just keep crumbling with their ever pronouncement.

(District of Columbia) - U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman dismissed the case of former Army Specialist Michael New yesterday, stating that he would "not second-guess the military courts".

In 1996, New was convicted by court-martial of disobeying an order to wear a United Nations uniform and then serve under a general officer from another country (Finland) on a "peacekeeping" mission into Macedonia. New contends the uniform was unauthorized, the deployment was illegal, and the chain of command was unconstitutional. He was not allowed to present any evidence at his trial to support his arguments. That incident alone raised the objections from many, both inside and outside the military community.

After the military appeals ran their course, New filed his present action seeking collateral review of the court-martial conviction in the US District Court, and now Judge Friedman's adverse ruling sets to stage to appeal to the US Court of Appeals.

At the heart of Judge Friedman's ruling against New is the court's conclusion that, while former President Clinton's action deploying New to Macedonia under United Nations command may have violated the law and the constitution, it is not for the courts to say whether a statute was broken or the constitution was violated in this case. Rather, Judge Friedman reasoned, in matters of "war" it's for Congress, not the courts, to protect the rights of American soldiers who are illegally and unconstitutionally deployed in U.N. operations

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's election body rejected a suggestion in Washington it adjust the results of next month's vote to benefit the Sunni minority if low turnout in Sunni areas means Shi'ites win an exaggerated majority in the new assembly.

Speaking of "unacceptable" interference, Electoral Commission spokesman Farid Ayar said: "Who wins, wins. That is the way it is. That is the way it will be in the election."

U.S. diplomats in Baghdad, at pains to keep their role in the election discreet, declined comment on a New York Times report from Washington which said Sunnis might be granted extra seats if the community's vote was judged to have been too low.

CIA Removes Records from the National Archives

The Central Intelligence Agency has been unilaterally removing records from public collections in the National Archives, according to the minutes of a September 2004 meeting of the State Department Historical Advisory Committee that were approved for release this week.

The Advisory Committee oversees the production of the official State Department publication Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS).

A State Department official noted that "the practice of submitting an entire FRUS manuscript to the CIA [for review] had resulted in the reclassification of documents located at the National Archives...."

"CIA reviewers... claimed the right to remove documents from the open files that, in their view, had never been 'properly declassified'."

The meeting minutes include a number of other notable historical nuggets, such as: "The CIA History staff will soon publish [sic] a classified study on DCI John McCone."

Newly Obtained FBI Records Call Defense Department’s Methods "Torture," Express Concerns Over "Cover-Up" That May Leave FBI "Holding the Bag" for Abuses

NEW YORK -- A document released for the first time today by the American Civil Liberties Union suggests that President Bush issued an Executive Order authorizing the use of inhumane interrogation methods against detainees in Iraq. Also released by the ACLU today are a slew of other records including a December 2003 FBI e-mail that characterizes methods used by the Defense Department as "torture" and a June 2004 "Urgent Report" to the Director of the FBI that raises concerns that abuse of detainees is being covered up.

"These documents raise grave questions about where the blame for widespread detainee abuse ultimately rests," said ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero. "Top government officials can no longer hide from public scrutiny by pointing the finger at a few low-ranking soldiers."

The documents were obtained after the ACLU and other public interest organizations filed a lawsuit against the government for failing to respond to a Freedom of Information Act request.

The two-page e-mail that references an Executive Order states that the President directly authorized interrogation techniques including sleep deprivation, stress positions, the use of military dogs, and "sensory deprivation through the use of hoods, etc." The ACLU is urging the White House to confirm or deny the existence of such an order and immediately to release the order if it exists. The FBI e-mail, which was sent in May 2004 from "On Scene Commander--Baghdad" to a handful of senior FBI officials, notes that the FBI has prohibited its agents from employing the techniques that the President is said to have authorized.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Jimmy Walter has spent more than $3 million (1.5 million pounds) promoting a conspiracy theory the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States were "an inside job" and he is offering more cash to anyone who proves him wrong.

The millionaire activist is so convinced of a government cover-up he is offering a $100,000 reward to any engineering student who can prove the World Trade Centre buildings crashed the way the government says.


"Of course, we expect no winners," Walter, 57, heir to an $11 million fortune from his father's home building business, said in a telephone interview from California on Wednesday.


He said a panel of expert engineers would judge submissions from the students.


Next month, he also launches a nationwide contest seeking alternative theories from college and high school students about why New York's World Trade Centre collapsed. The contest offers $10,000 to the best alternative theory, with 100 runner-up awards of $1,000. Winners will be chosen next June.

Smith says that Alan Greenspan was the chief architect of a plan to fix Social Security that was enacted into law in 1983. That legislation increased payroll tax rates high enough so the baby boomers would be required to prepay the cost of retirement benefits for themselves, in addition to paying for the benefits of the preceding generation.

The 1983 payroll tax increase has generated more than $1.5 trillion in Social Security surplus, earmarked specifically for funding the retirement of the baby boomers. Because of that tax increase, the trust fund should today contain at least $1.5 trillion in real liquid assets in the form of regular marketable Treasury Bonds just like those bonds in which many private pension plans invest, but it does not contain any marketable bonds.

Police Need Not Say Why Arrest Made: U.S. High Court Overview
Dec. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Police officers don't have to give a reason at the time they arrest someone, the U.S. Supreme Court said in a ruling that shields officers from false-arrest lawsuits.

The justices, voting 8-0, threw out a suit against Washington state police officers who stopped a motorist and then told him he was being arrested for tape-recording their conversation. Although the recording was legal, the high court said the arrest was valid because the man could have been arrested instead for impersonating a police officer.

In an opinion for the court, Justice Antonin Scalia said the officers didn't have to provide a reason for arresting the man at all, as long as they had probable cause to do so.

``While it is assuredly good police practice to inform a person of the reason for his arrest at the time he is taken into custody, we have never held that to be constitutionally required,'' Scalia wrote

Recruiting At Any Cost
How The Pentagon Keeps The New Recruits Coming

With the number of American casualties in Iraq increasing daily for a war that now even Sec. of State Colin Powell believes is lost, it may come as a surprise that recruitment rates are still up. The Pentagon reports that for the year 2004, its 15,000 recruiters have already recruited over 212,000 people, surpassing its goal of 210,000, at a cost of $ 14,000 per recruit, and Marine Staff Sergeant Mark Ayalin at Quantico Recruiting Command confirms, “Recruitment figures haven't been affected by the situation in Iraq at all.”

This triumphant stance conceals a more grim reality. In its 2003 Government Accounting Office (GAO) Report, the Pentagon stated that “convincing young adults to join the military has become more difficult.” At the same time, the Department of Defense’s budget for recruiting reached a record $4 billion for the fiscal year 2003 according to a Government Accounting Office report, and the portion of that budget devoted to advertising nearly doubled in the past five years, from $299 million in 1998 to $592 million in 2003. In the same period, the Army alone increased its advertising spending by 73 percent to $197 million, and the Air Force the same budget by 395 percent to $90.5 million. The advertising cost per new enlisted recruit has nearly tripled from $640 in 1990 to almost $1,900 last year.

A 1996 Navy Recruiting Command study admits “In our analysis, family incomes proved to be the most important economic variable … Enlistment rates are much higher when income is lowest and college enrollment rates are low.” And, unsurprisingly, as Michael Moore points out in his film Fahrenheit 9/11, recruiters target 17 or 18 year-olds desperate to escape the lower classes. “Economic conscription is easier when the economy gets bad. Recruiters often amplify the bad economic conditions and present themselves as the only strategy," explained counter recruiter and former publisher of AWOL magazine Mario Hardy.

The No Child Left Behind Act, enacted in 2001, and the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year of 2002 have made economic conscription much easier. They require every high school receiving federal education funds to hand over the names, addresses and phone numbers of every junior and senior to local military recruitment officers

If you want society to become something different than it is, you must set up the conditions which will bring about the desired results.

The German philosopher, Frederich Hegel called it: Thesis, Antithesis, Synthesis. His technique is now called "The Hegelian Dialectic".

The CIA/NWO calls it: Crisis Creation, Crisis Solution, Crisis Control.

It goes this way... If you want a One world government with you and yours at the top, you have to create the conditions in which sovereign citizens will beg you to do whatever it takes to bring peace.

Here's an example of how to create a One World Government:

Step One: Encourage liberal immigration. Give the immigrants welfare, healthcare. Do not require that they learn the language of the country. Allow them to live separately. Encourage conflict.

Step Two: Fan the flames of conflict until war breaks out. This was done in Kosovo. Remember, Kosovo at one time this century was Serbian. The Albanian Muslims kept immigrating, refusing to learn the language, refusing to educate their children in Kosovo schools. War broke out. The United Nations went in and is now controlling the area. The moment they leave, war will break out again. Meanwhile, Christian churches continue to be burnt to the ground and Christians continue to be killed. Hate continues to build.

Repeat Steps One and Two in many different countries around the globe. Make sure the immigrants have the same thing in common, either communism or Islam, or preferably, the two together! This way when the flames are fanned high enough, the communists and the Islamists can unite and the whole world can go up in flames at one time.

Step Three: The kindly new world order comes in with a plan to stop the wars. Oh yes, they will stop them... they will simply stop paying the rebels, aka, insurgents, aka, freedom fighters, aka terrorists. They will close their munitions factories. Nations will no longer be able to buy the weapons they need to defend themselves. Once there is no more money to buy weapons, and no more weapons sold to nations, a peace maker will appear on the scene.

GARY WEBB - PULITZER PRIZE WINNER, AUTHOR OF DARK ALLIANCE CIA-DRUG SERIES DEAD OF REPORTED SUICIDE

December 13, 2004 1400 PDT (FTW) - Gary Webb, 49, the Pulitzer Prize winning reporter from the San Jose Mercury News made America hold its breath in 1996 when he showed us proof of direct CIA involvement in drug trafficking. For a few months many of us had hope.



He reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head two days ago. His body was discovered at 8:20 AM Saturday as movers reportedly found a note on the door of his residence asking them not to enter but to call for paramedics.

Webb's August 1996 series Dark Alliance for the San Jose Mercury News pulled deep covers away from US covert operations and American denial about connections between the CIA and drugs. Gary left a bigger historical footprint than anyone who has ever touched the subject including among others, Peter Dale Scott, Alfred McCoy, Jonathan Kwitny and me.

His footprint was made possible in large part for two reasons. First, his reporting was meticulous and produced hard records that could not be effectively denied. Second, prominent African-American leaders like Jesse Jackson and representatives Maxine Waters and Juanita Millender-McDonald of Los Angeles and Compton respectively took up the torch lit by Gary and ran with it just before the 1996 presidential election which saw Bill Clinton win his second term just eight weeks after the stories broke. I was there at that time and it is not an understatement to say that much of this country was "up in arms".

Waters at one point vowed to make the CIA-drug connections, fully documented by Webb, her "life's work" if necessary.

In death the major press is beating him almost as ruthlessly as they did in real life. No part of the major press has acknowledged that Webb's work was subsequently vindicated by congressional investigations and two CIA Inspector General's reports released in 1997 and 1998. FTW did report on Webb's vindication and his legacy has - at least at the level of authentic journalism - not been lost.

Of the six obituaries I have seen on him, the one from the L.A. Times was the most brutally Soviet in its attempt to crush out his memory as thoroughly as his work. Of course the Times would have to do that. It was in Los Angeles where Webb dug up and documented the direct connection between the CIA and cocaine smuggling/trafficking as crack cocaine ravaged this city in the 1980s and the Contra war decimated Central America.

The Times already had known of this for decades. Starting in 1979 I dealt extensively with the Times trying to report the same connections with regard to heroin smuggling by the CIA. Cocaine did not become a national epidemic until around 1980. By 1996 I had 17 bitter years of funneling hard evidence to the Times and watching as staff writer David Rosenzweig -- among others including Ron Soble and David Johnston (now of the New York Times) - kept taking the information, promising to do something, and then spiking the stories in exchange for promotions.

When Gary autographed his 1998 best-seller Dark Alliance to me he wrote: "To Mike. You were there before I was."

Richard Heinberg, author of The Party's Over and Powerdown observed after reading the Times' obituary, "The LA Times obit is disgusting. 'What's our attitude toward investigative journalism? Well, of course we try to discourage it wherever we can, but sometimes it happens anyway. Then we get especially nasty--we have to, naturally, to protect our reputation.'"

I always knew it was a fight to the death. I don't think he ever fully understood that. Retired DEA agent Cele Castillo who had reported on direct CIA drug involvement from Honduras and El Salvador in the 1980s and I both told him in 1996 what he was up against and what it might cost him.

GRATITUDE

There would be no FTW, or Crossing the Rubicon without Gary Webb. Catherine Austin Fitts and I would never have met had it not been for Gary Webb. Dick Gregory would not have made me his white son on the radio had it not been for Gary Webb. I would never have confronted John Deutch at Locke High had it not been for Gary Webb.

I myself might have committed suicide in 1996 - broke, divorced and having given up all hope of making people listen -- had it not been for Gary Webb. For some years now it has been the farthest thing from my mind.

I rediscovered my purpose and maybe Gary lost his. This is a tragedy of Shakespearean proportions.

KNOWN DETAILS

I called the Coroner shortly after the first flash came in here from Bay Area journalist and producer Kellia Ramares. His time of death was listed at 8:20 AM. Since it was Saturday, the homicide detectives would have been off and had to be paged. I estimate two hours (minimum) for them to get to the crime scene (unless a uniformed supervisor handled it). Add three hours minimum for crime scene, photos etc; that means he went to the Coroner's most likely around 1 PM. It could have been much later depending on response times on a Saturday before Christmas.

When I called the Sacramento Coroner's Office at 8:20 PM on Saturday I spoke with an unidentified female who stated that he had just been there since late that afternoon. I identified myself as a friend, ex-cop and journalist and she confirmed a single shot to the head. I wasn't sure it was our Gary Webb so I got his date of birth, hair and eye color. They matched. Gary was a good looking man with a moustache and I asked if that fit. She hesitated for quite a while before answering, "I can't tell."

This led me to suspect that the weapon used was a shotgun.

I then confirmed his death with the San Jose Mercury News and the L.A. Times. We will see if later facts don't mesh with what has been reported thus far.

I called the Times again at about 9:15 because I wanted to make sure someone said some good things about Gary. I dropped some names and got to the writer or the editor on the story who wouldn't ID himself. He said he'd have someone call me back to get my statement. No one ever called back and then the Times published their maliciously spiteful obituary just after midnight Sunday. It was clear to me that they wanted/needed to put a spin on his death.

Gary Webb deserved better than this and those of us who knew him and benefited from his work will see that he gets it.

I am going to the funeral and I will be asking questions in Sacramento. Given the disproportionate number of "suicides" of authors and journalists who have covered such stories, and the mainstream's horrendously dishonest coverage of such events, it is right to see if there are grounds to be cautiously suspicious of these accounts. But it is also right to avoid hysteria and unsupported conclusions until there are solid reasons to suspect foul play.

Gary would have wanted us all to do this by the numbers, patiently and thoroughly. That was his style. That was why he was so good.

When funeral arrangements are announced FTW will publish them and we encourage all of our subscribers to send flowers, write letters and show their thanks to this man who changed all of our lives forever.

It wouldn't hurt if you wanted to let the L.A. Times know what you think of their obituary.

Sleep well, Gary. Wherever men and women of honor gather together from now on, your name will be spoken with reverence, respect and gratitude.

A 9-11 rescue worker recently came forward to say he was told by FBI agents to “keep my mouth shut” about one of the “black boxes” a fellow firefighter helped locate at ground zero, contradicting the official story that none of the flight and cockpit data recorders were ever recovered in the wreckage of the World Trade Center (WTC) towers.

Paul Denounces National ID Card

Washington, DC- Congressman Ron Paul today denounced the national ID card provisions contained in the intelligence bill being voted on in the U.S. House of Representatives, while urging his colleagues to reject the bill and its new layers of needless bureaucracy.

“National ID cards are not proper in a free society,” Paul stated. “This is America, not Soviet Russia. The federal government should never be allowed to demand papers from American citizens, and it certainly has no constitutional authority to do so.”

“A national identification card, in whatever form it may take, will allow the federal government to inappropriately monitor the movements and transactions of every American,” Paul continued. “History shows that governments inevitably use such power in harmful ways. The 9-11 commission, whose recommendations underlie this bill, has called for internal screening points where identification will be demanded. Domestic travel restrictions are the hallmark of authoritarian states, not free nations. It is just a matter of time until those who refuse to carry the new licenses will be denied the ability to drive or board an airplane.”

The power behind President George W. Bush is a witch’s brew consisting of generous potions from Machiavelli’s The Prince, a simplistic application of Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations, and a presumptuous, arrogant interpretation of the Christian Bible.

Kevin Phillips identifies the first ingredient in his latest book, American Dynasty. It turns out that the late Lee Atwater, chief political adviser to the elder Bush, and Karl Rove were both devotees of Machiavelli and his famous work The Prince. “Hardly a coincidence,” says Phillips.

The brew begins to boil when one misuses Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations to justify a kind of economic Darwinism in which a so-called “free” market justly chooses those most deserving and capable of surviving in a dog-eat-dog world. And this sour nectar begins to make those with power thirst for more. Worse, those with power begin to suffer from the delusional rationalization that the poor deserve to be poor and the rich have earned every penny they possess.

This self-serving recipe turns into a man-made cauldron of hypocritical, pharisaical, religious hyperbole when George W. adds a “born-again” label to an emotional experience that supposedly gives him a direct line of communication to God Almighty. And by coincidence, Mr. Bush’s direct line turns out to be a party-line connection to an anthropomorphic God that won him 84 percent of the evangelical vote in the 2000 election and a similar percentage in 2004.

Out of such a brew comes an information “dark age” in which the United States sees itself as the center of the world, rather than an integral part of it.

It is an information “dark age” that actually endorses the axiom that “perception is reality.” Although linguists can correctly observe that perception is a particular kind of reality, it is most commonly used in the Machiavellian sense that “the great majority of mankind is satisfied with appearances, as though they were realities.” Perception (appearance), in the latter sense, may be something that politicians must deal with (or promote), but it is not reality. Reality usually exacts a huge price--very often in human lives--when the superficiality of perceived truth evaporates in the face of verifiable facts. How many Iraqis have we killed trying to save them? How many brave soldiers and civilians will die making Iraq safe for democracy? Will our troops also be asked to make North Korea and Iran safe for democracy since they are part of the “axis of evil”? If not, why not? Isn’t the threat of nuclear war much greater from these countries? How much is the war actually costing, starting with the hundreds of billions already paid to private military corporations such as Halliburton?

Also pass it on to anyone that you know that might be thinking of enlisting in any branch of the U.S. military. When will these clowns learn that they have to take care of the troops? Especially if they plan on fighting their hundred year war. Everyone likes to say, "Hitler did this", and, "Hitler did that". But the truth is Hitler did very little. He was a world class tyrant, but the evil actually done by the Third Reich, from the death camps to WW2 was all done by German citizens who were afraid to question if what they were told by their government was the truth or not, and who because they did not want to admit to themselves that they were afraid to question the government, refused to see the truth behind the Reichstag Fire, refused to see the invasion by Poland was a staged fake, and followed Hitler into national disaster.

The German people of the late 1930s imagined themselves to be brave. They saw themselves as the heroic Germans depicted by the Wagnerian Operas, the descendants of the fierce Germanic warriors who had hunted wild boar with nothing but spears and who had defeated three of Rome's mightiest legions in the Tuetenberg Forest.

But in truth, by the 1930s, the German people had become civilized and tamed, culturally obsessed with fine details in both science and society. Their self-image of bravery was both salve and slavery. Germans were required to behave as if they were brave, even when they were not.

It's easy to look back and realize what a jerk Hitler was. But at the time, Hitler looked pretty good to the German people, with the help of the media. He was TIME Magazine's Man Of The Year in 1938. The German people assumed they were safe from a tyrant. They lived in a Republic, after all, with strict laws regarding what the government could and more importantly could not do. Their leader was a devoutly religious man, and had even sung with the boy's choir of a monastery in his youth.

This is an absolute outrage! Now not only can the governemnt not outfit the troops in Iraq with the proper equipment but those coming back from the war are already ending up on the streets? AmeriKa my friends is quickly being sucked into the black abyss of the war profiteers. Homeless Iraq vets showing up at shelters


Washington, DC, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. veterans from the war in Iraq are beginning to show up at homeless shelters around the country, and advocates fear they are the leading edge of a new generation of homeless vets not seen since the Vietnam era.


"When we already have people from Iraq on the streets, my God," said Linda Boone, executive director of the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans. "I have talked to enough (shelters) to know we are getting them. It is happening and this nation is not prepared for that."

Pentagon report reveals catalogue of failure

THE Pentagon has admitted that the war on terror and the invasion and occupation of Iraq have increased support for al-Qaeda, made ordinary Muslims hate the US and caused a global backlash against America because of the “self-serving hypocrisy” of George W Bush’s administration over the Middle East.
The mea culpa is contained in a shockingly frank “strategic communications” report, written this autumn by the Defence Science Board for Pentagon supremo Donald Rumsfeld.

On “the war of ideas or the struggle for hearts and minds”, the report says, “American efforts have not only failed, they may also have achieved the opposite of what they intended”.

“American direct intervention in the Muslim world has paradoxically elevated the stature of, and support for, radical Islamists, while diminishing support for the United States to single digits in some Arab societies.”

Referring to the repeated mantra from the White House that those who oppose the US in the Middle East “hate our freedoms”, the report says: “Muslims do not ‘hate our freedoms’, but rather, they hate our policies. The overwhelming majority voice their objections to what they see as one-sided support in favour of Israel and against Palestinian rights, and the long-standing, even increasing support, for what Muslims collectively see as tyrannies, most notably Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Pakistan and the Gulf states.

The Beast

The beast was every bit of 14 feet tall from foot to crown. It was bad humored with a penchant at times for the most abominable of sentimentality. It could at one moment be as hot as the volcanic geyser at Yellowstone and at other times be as cold as the largest glacier North West of Gnome, Alaska. It claimed to have descended into the very depths of the Yellowstone geyser. It blasted me with boast of its very ascent to the pinnacle of the previously mentioned glacier. Sometimes I was fond of scolding it due in no small part to the beast apparent grandiose idolization of itself. It would respond to my gentle rebukes by rattling the iron bars of its’ cage to the point of almost shattering them. My greatest fear in life was that one-day it would escape and when it did I knew that with its sharp fangs and jagged claws that it would tear me limb from limb and devour me. In these moments I could feel its acrid hot breath and the accompanying rancid smell almost choked me. It had the largest dark and shiny eyes that I had ever seen. Once I saw my reflection in the onyx pools it claimed as eyes. The sparkles emanating from its eyes corresponded exactly to my racing heartbeat. Then for an instant I could have sworn that I was transmuted into a rabid dervish chasing the Prophet Muhammad from the narrow streets of Mecca to the even narrower streets of Jerusalem. In what seemed like an instant and at the same time seemed a thousand years the three of us stood at the entrance to a tomb. Muhammad stood holding the Qur’an, I stood holding my breath, and the beast held us both in an iron gaze. At this point a longhaired man clothed in the whitest linen and clinging to both the Torah and the Christian Testament exited the tomb and joined the three of us. The beast demanded that our new arrival and Muhammad share a shot of absinthe and a ham sandwich. The beast then roared with approval before shouting something about ecumenicalism.
Don’t get me wrong. There were times when the beast could be a most gentle creature. He could sneak in reverent silence and often this was the time that in the hush of the moment he most frightened me. Once he bid me to follow him with the motion of a finger and shushing me with the other. He led me into the very heart of a silent cemetery. Here the beast and I became spellbound at the sight of a soundless group clad in scarlet shawls that encircled an anomalous monolith with a strange inscription upon it. The muffled chant that was the almost imperceptible din of the group was obviously some strange homage being paid to the entity honored by the monolith. As I bent over to read the inscription I noticed that you too were now beside me. I beckoned for you to bend with me and read the scrawling inscription. Taking the only light possessed by the group the beast coerced the group of scarlet clad worshippers to remove themselves from us. Then he gestured so that we might understand that the inscription on the monolith was also the name in which he was accustomed to being addressed. Holding our breath we in that instant were overcome with a most magical sense of awe. Slowly we deciphered the archaic script into our native tongue and it read as follows:
I-M-A-G-I-N-A-T-I-O-N!

Most of you reading this may not understand it but thats ok. Sometimes I have experiences that wrench my heart to the point of breaking it. Often times this happens as a result of me observing things within our society that deeply trouble me but that do not have clear answers. I once long ago thought that such instances resulted from things that had always been this way. I have since througn deep contemplation and soul searching come to the conclusion that this is not the case.

Much as your hands become callous doing hard labor so has our collective consciousness become equally callous to the plight of others. Where once as a species we understood that all are one and one are all today we have forgotten this. I believe deep in my heart that this is not a simple coincidence. The present situation resonates with the signature of those that since the twilight of time have sought to divide the human race one against another in order to maintain control. They seek to wretch wealth from the suffering of each of us that they consider lesser than themselves.

Until we as a species can once again realize how we each are so very interconnected we are doomed in my opinion to an invisible slavery cast over us by those who see it as their divine right to lord over us. My prayer is that very soon a new day will dawn in which our blindness and deafness to this are taken away. Until then I leave you with this my humble verse.

Upon Visiting A Correctional (?) Facility

Framed in razor wire and matted in rough gravel

three small children are searched before seeing daddy.

My pride in deity and country evaporates

as I realize that societal population exponentially recedes

while both penal and military population exponentially multiply.

We have chosen to offer up both our young and old

on the alter of militancy or dehumanizing confinement.

The truth is there are not enough seats on the democratic bus

so we provide them with two equally insane choices as to path.

They can either die quickly to boost gross domestic product

or become the herd animals central to a lower unemployment rate.

Never do we pause to contemplate societal collective failure

for we are programmed to lay the blame upon their individual flaws.

The lucky ones one-day return to their families and communities as hulls

thoroughly dehumanized and with the modernistic mark of Cain.

Then when they cannot handle reintegration we mark it up to recidivism

and label them one final time with a wide brush as institutionalized.

How does one become institutionalized I most humbly ask?

Is it not society that has accomplished this reprehensible task?

George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.

The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

His business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.

The evidence has also prompted one former US Nazi war crimes prosecutor to argue that the late senator's action should have been grounds for prosecution for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

Residents debate need for fluoride

The debate over fluoridation continued Wednesday at South Blount Utility District's monthly board of commissioners meeting.

The district's decision not to fluoridate water at its new plant, completed this year, has drawn staunch support and opposition from customers. Both sides made an appearance at the meeting Wednesday.

Commissioners decided to continue collecting information on fluoridation, look for a way to educate customers about the issue, and get an accurate poll or survey of what customers want. They did not reverse their decision on fluoridation.

Customer comment

Celeste Meunier voiced concerns about the effect lack of fluoridation could have on the dental health of South Blount's customers, particularly families that can't afford regular dental care. It wouldn't cost much to add it to the water, she said.

``It's cheap,'' Meunier said.

Some families have sought fluoride supplements. Walgreen pharmacist Heather Webb said demand for the supplements has increased a lot since September.

Larry Campbell didn't think fluoride should be added to the water. He's concerned about the effects fluoride could have on the health of South Blount customers. Like others at the meeting, he referenced studies and information on the Web to support his position.

Mike Biddle, a customer who couldn't make the meeting, spent his Thanksgiving holiday building a Web site to inform people of the hazards of fluoride use.

People can also register on the site in support of leaving fluoridation out of South Blount's water supply.

Biddle is worried about the long-term effects of fluoride.

``It builds up in your body,'' he said.

More Robot Grunts Ready for Duty

ORLANDO, Florida -- Hunting for guerillas, handling roadside bombs, crawling across the caves and crumbling towns of Afghanistan and Iraq -- all of that was just a start. Now, the Army is prepping its squad of robotic vehicles for a new set of assignments. And this time, they'll be carrying guns.

As early as March or April, 18 units of the Talon -- a model armed with automatic weapons -- are scheduled to report for duty in Iraq. Around the same time, the first prototypes of a new, unmanned ambulance should be ready for the Army to start testing. In a warren of hangar-sized hotel ballrooms in Orlando, military engineers this week showed off their next generation of robots, as they got the machines ready for the war zone.

"Putting something like this into the field, we're about to start something that's never been done before," said Staff Sgt. Santiago Tordillos, waving to the black, 2-foot-six-inch robot rolling around the carpeted floor on twin treads, an M249 machine gun cradled in its mechanical grip.

For years, the Pentagon and defense contractors have been toying with the idea of sending armed, unmanned ground vehicles, or UGVs, into battle. Actually putting together the robots was a remarkably straightforward job, said Tordillos, who works in the Army's Armaments Engineering and Technology Center.

Ordinarily, the Talon bomb-disposal UGV comes equipped with a mechanical arm, to pick up and inspect suspicious objects. More than a hundred of the robots are being used in Iraq and Afghanistan, with an equal amount on order from the UGV's maker, Waltham, Massachusetts-based firm Foster-Miller.

For this new, lethal Talon model, Foster-Miller swapped the metal limb for a remote-controlled, camera-equipped, shock-resistant tripod, which the Marines use to fire their guns from hundreds of feet away. The only difference: The Marines' version relies on cables to connect weapons and controllers, while the Talon gets its orders to fire from radio signals instead.

"We were ready to send it a month ago," Tordillos said. Navigating the Pentagon bureaucracy and putting together the proper training manuals are what's keeping the Talon stateside, for now.

Back in December 2003, the Army's 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division tested an armed Talon in Kuwait. Now, the brigade wants 18 of the UGVs to watch the backs of its Stryker armored vehicles.

Four cameras and a pair of night-vision binoculars allow the robot to operate at all times of the day. It has a range of about a half-mile in urban areas, more in the open desert. And with the ability to carry four 66-mm rockets or six 40-mm grenades, as well as an M240 or M249 machine gun, the robots can take on additional duties fast, said GlobalSecurity.org director John Pike.

"It's a premonition of things to come," Pike said. "It makes sense. These things have no family to write home to. They're fearless. You can put them places you'd have a hard time putting a soldier in."

Wow...big news day, huh? I knew there was a reason I held off on the siren for the previous two items here (which, by all rights, each might have warranted one of their own!)

Two statements have been released today on the Green Party's Cobb-LaMarche Website in regard to the impending joint Green/Libertarian recount in Ohio.

The first statement reports that a Delaware County, Ohio judge has issued a temporary restraining order "attempting to prevent Cobb from seeking a recount of the presidential ballots cast in that county."

The order, according to the statement, was issued "without contacting or seeking any input from the candidates or their attorneys."

I'm no legal eagle myself, but if true, that fact alone is certainly curious.

The Cobb-Lamarche media director, Blair Bobier, was more direct in a comment included in the release: "It makes you wonder if Delaware County has something to hide. Why else would they try to prevent a recount and issue an injunction without giving the candidates any notice to participate?"

The Green/Libertarian coalition (dubbed "The Glibs" by Olbermann, in a phrase that seems to be catching on) has asked a federal court to take jurisdiction of the matter, and "ultimately dissolve" the temporary restraining order.

I'd the expect the restraining order will in fact be eventually set aside, particularly given Ohio Sec. of State (and coincidentally Ohio's Co-Chair for the Bush/Cheney Re-elect Committee) J. Kenneth Blackwell's point-blank statement on MSNBC last night that "The Glibs'" recount would definitely be moving forward.

But guess who showed up in court today to come to "The Glibs" defense?!

That's right! You may remember them from some of their well-publicized work earlier this year, the Kerry/Edwards campaign -- it was announced in the second statement at the Cobb-Lamarche site -- has filed briefs with the court intervening in defense of "The Glibs"!

Perhaps rumors of the Kerry/Edwards campaign has been slightly exaggerated after all!

The FBI subpoenaed four senior staffers at the American Israel Public
Affairs Committee to appear before a grand jury.

The FBI searched the Washington office of the pro-Israel lobby on
Wednesday, seeking additional files related to two
staffers who were interviewed by the agency in August — Research
Director Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman, deputy director for foreign
policy issues.

The FBI also delivered the grand jury subpoenas, AIPAC said in a
statement that did not name the four “senior staff members.” An FBI
spokeswoman confirmed the search, but had no further comment.

Federal investigators reportedly have been investigating AIPAC for two
years, and the case is said to focus around a former Pentagon official
suspected of passing a classified draft policy statement on Iran to
AIPAC, which allegedly then passed it on to Israel.

Another election held and another election stolen. In 2000 Bush stole the election by restricting the ability to vote by those people most likely to vote against him. The abuses were wide spread and the Democrats and other groups that believe in each individuals right to vote put together an impressive attempt to make sure that every individual that wanted to vote would not be turned away. Everywhere you went there was booths where new voters could register. Celebrities in commercials were urging voters to get out and vote. Poll watchers were placed in polling stations across the country to guarantee that every voter would not be turned away on any technicality.

What these well meaning groups failed to account for was that they were defending the 2000 election fixing plan and not taking into account that this election would be decided not by voters but by the rise of technology. Every one might be allowed to vote but their vote, and your vote made no difference at all. The programmers had already decided who would win and by how much.

Prior to this election I personally sent out information to the media which should have been provided to the electorate. It was not. The biggest turnout in history had no chance to win this election or any other unless the programmers of the voting machine allowed it. I believe they will allow it less and less as the machines control the elections and the Republicans control the machines.

This is not speculation. It is not a rant designed to make the losers feel better. I speak from first hand information and unless people stand up and act, democracy in this country is ended.

While employed at Wong Enterprises, Congressman Feeney had requested if Wong could write a voting program that could alter the vote and be undetectable. As the technology advisor, I explained that as long as the source code was provided and complied under supervision, code which altered the vote and was undetectable could not be built. Another problem would be that no one would trust a program that provided for no paper trail to substantiate its accuracy. When the vote was flipped the paper trail could easily detect the fraud.

This request was early in my exposure to Congressman Feeney, so I was not familiar with what a total piece of crap he truly was. My assumption was that he was worried that the other side (the Democrats) would introduce voting machines which could manipulate the vote. Mrs. Wong volunteered that we (meaning me) could put together a quick prototype that he could view and show others.

I have recreated that prototype and posted it at http://www.justaflyonthewall.com/votefraudprogram.htm. It is essentially the same code that I built for the vote fraud demo for Congressman Feeney. You will notice that by clicking on the correct hidden spots on the screen, the vote will flip so that the Republican candidate will receive fifty one percent of the vote. The hot spots make it possible to flip the vote as often as necessary yet it will never fire accidentally so as to avoid detection. My prototype was actually very simplistic. The actual sequence to flip the vote could be as complex as the programmer wished or even to operate automatically. In cases when the Republican is already leading, the vote is left as is. I built the program to demonstrate that with proper supervision that the election machines would be safe. The code would not be able to be hidden.

OK, I know they back pedal later in the article but doesn't this article say that the media is out and out lying to the news consumer? Aren't we paying for this service when we are forced to watch the corporate propaganda they call commercials? Shouldn't they be giving us factual information if they are going to have the audacity to call it news?

Probably not. They now believe that we are asleep at the wheel and if this past election is any indication they are probably right.

PR Meets Psy-Ops in War on Terror

WASHINGTON — On the evening of Oct. 14, a young Marine spokesman near Fallouja appeared on CNN and made a dramatic announcement.



"Troops crossed the line of departure," 1st Lt. Lyle Gilbert declared, using a common military expression signaling the start of a major campaign. "It's going to be a long night." CNN, which had been alerted to expect a major news development, reported that the long-awaited offensive to retake the Iraqi city of Fallouja had begun.


In fact, the Fallouja offensive would not kick off for another three weeks. Gilbert's carefully worded announcement was an elaborate psychological operation — or "psy-op" — intended to dupe insurgents in Fallouja and allow U.S. commanders to see how guerrillas would react if they believed U.S. troops were entering the city, according to several Pentagon (news - web sites) officials.


In the hours after the initial report, CNN's Pentagon reporters were able to determine that the Fallouja operation had not, in fact, begun.


"As the story developed, we quickly made it clear to our viewers exactly what was going on in and around Fallouja," CNN spokesman Matthew Furman said.


Officials at the Pentagon and other U.S. national security agencies said the CNN incident was not an isolated feint — the type used throughout history by armies to deceive their enemies — but part of a broad effort underway within the Bush administration to use information to its advantage in the war on terrorism.


The Pentagon in 2002 was forced to shutter its controversial Office of Strategic Influence (OSI), which was opened shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks, after reports that the office intended to plant false news stories in the international media. But officials say that much of OSI's mission — using information as a tool of war — has been assumed by other offices throughout the U.S. government.

Facism in this country is in high gear folks we need to all wake up!

HIV positive children and their loved ones have few rights if they choose to battle with social work authorities in New York City.

Jacklyn Hoerger's job was to treat children with HIV at a New York children's home.

But nobody had told her that the drugs she was administering were experimental and highly toxic.

"We were told that if they were vomiting, if they lost their ability to walk, if they were having diarrhoea, if they were dying, then all of this was because of their HIV infection."

In fact it was the drugs that were making the children ill and the children had been enrolled on the secret trials without their relatives' or guardians' knowledge.

As Jacklyn would later discover, those who tried to take the children off the drugs risked losing them into care.
